Arbor and Pergola Contractor Burnaby
Burnaby Deck Builders constructs top quality custom decks but that's not where the fun stops. While we mainly focus on decks, we've built countless other landscaping structures for our clients as well. A great complementary piece to a brand new deck is to get an arbor or pergola installed. These two structures are fairly unique and will definitely give a certain wow factor. The names for these two are used fairly interchangeably as at first glance, they look pretty similar. But they are two distinct structures and we'll go over each of them to see what might best match your property.
Pergola - Pergolas are typically the larger of the two as they are made to fit over decks and patios to form an enclosure. We can make your pergola with different materials depending on how you want it to look. Metal, wood, vinyl are the most common materials used for constructing pergolas. There are some creative ways to generate shade for pergolas via climbing plants vines, or covers like shades, linen, and bamboo. Pergolas are typically connected to another structure -like you garage, shed, or your house- you can also build standalone ones as well. They are typically constructed with 4 or more posts/columns which act as the support pillars for the structure. The roof area is usually designed in a crisscrossed pattern or made of slats and beams. You can even add privacy to your pergola by adding a lattice design on the side as well. The main function of a pergolas is to create a usable outdoor space. Seating can be installed during the construction phase or even afterwards. You can install lighting with fixed lighting or hanging lights. This can be a small touch that creates a nice ambiance to your pergola. There are many other ways to customize your outdoor living space just the way you like it. Arbor - Typically, arbors are usually built to be smaller than a pergola and is created to be more of a seating area for your garden. The construction of the unit is similar to a pergola just built a bit smaller. An arbor is more of outdoor doorway/entranceway while a pergola is more of an outdoor living room. They can be freestanding structures or attached to a fence. You can even add a gate to your arbor to create a secluded atmosphere for your space. Many of our clients also like to include a seating area incorporated into the design. A traditionally designed arbor will have have a lattice design installed to allow for vines and climbing plants to inhabit the walls. Arbors can be made from wood, vinyl, and metal. Our team is well versed in constructing custom arbors and pergolas alongside the decks that we build. While it may not seem like a major addition to your yard, these structures can add a new element to your landscape.
